Really happy that the drive shafts, fulcrum plates and side gears all have very little wear at all.

Finish welding both pans in...

Rons Resto - Page 6 Beetle025

Then had to remove all the little brackets from the old pans and weld them on the new.

I use two standard 4 1/2" 115mm grinders. The first fitted with a standard grinding disc to take the weld down to just above the surface and the second grinder fitted with a soft backing bad and either 24 or 36 grit disc's.

Like this...

Unless its in a really hard to get to area thaen I use a air belt sander with 40 grit belts.

how are you going to blank all the holes , so grit don't get into the tunnel ,or the splines of the rear axle

I'm going to cut out several different shape plates from mild steel plate and bond them on / over holes with silicone.

Then when it comes back just pull them off and clen up around the areas.

Had another couple of hours free today so dragged out the gearbox that I had steam cleaned the other week.

Made sure that all was sealed up and gave it a light sand blasting...

Rons Resto - Page 6 Beetle038

Then another good clean up and a coat of etch primer...

Then a coat of met silver base coat...
