| I bought Ron, a 1964 1200 deluxe sedan with a genuine 46'000 miles earlier this year. When I bought him I decided that I would run him for the show season, then if I decided to keep him he'd get a resto over the winter ready for next year. I had to sort out a few things with him ( Lowered with a 5" narrowed beam, wheels, rack and a few bits and bobs ) so I was happy to use him this year. This is how he looked when I bought him. This is how he looked this season. Now, I am not the worlds fastest worker, so at times this thread could go a little slow. But I am going to do a full body off resto with loads of pics so in the end we should end up with a reasonable thread. Here we go...

It was just a quicky beam to get me through the show season. You'll see some nice ones when it goes back together.

| I think it depends on if you would like to keep the og paint.
I have just been using a 1" paint scraper, but I have seen guys that steam clean it off.
The og underseal on early bugs is very brittle when cold so just chips away.

| Thats exactly what I found the og underseal comes off easy as but the newer stuff is like rubber and a right pain to get off I ended up using the evil brush on my grinder for that stuff but then again I am bare metaling mine...... |

| yeah chip it off if you can ....my 66 needed a bit of heat from a blowlamp .....then i used a scapper which had snapped and I ground the metal to a sharp blade ....about 1" wide possibly a bit thinner | |

| Removed the front seats, carpet, rubber floor mats etc. Then all the sound deadening. The bottom of the "A" posts and inner channels look good. Obviously a little water is getting in from somewhere on the n/s/f. Then out came the steering wheel and column. Then most of the dash bits and bobs. Thats it for today folks.
