The latest update. Apologies for the pics, they are straight off an iPhone.
The next problem was the bubbling coming through on the bottom of the passenger door, rather than try and source an NOS door or a solid replacement the rot was cut out and a new section of skin was fabricated and let in.
So it was out with this












Then this replacement steel was made up to go in to replace where the dreaded tinworm had settled.





Which got the door looking like this.












The corner then received a little bit of 'loving'






And then it was all tidied up

Fair shout to them Scoops, looks proper!

The last bit of bodywork to be done was a quick look at the passenger side sill.
So it was off with a wing.


And let's see what is going on.







Off with the outer sill









Not looking too pretty is it???

So the whole inner sill had to come out as well!!






A new peice of tubing for the heater channel piping was made up.


And then new inner sills were made up














And then the floor section was let in.








Looking better.








And on to the T3D outer sill now....probably the only bought replacement panel used. A testament to the skills of Shaun etc out at Classy Campers.

Almost there now. The final bit of bodywork was being done today in the door jar etc.
The gearbox casing has been welded and the rear disc conversion is on there. (Splitfirebus, there is a set of type 3 rear discs for sale now).
Gearbox and engine are back in and it is booked into the paintshop today or tomorrow.
Just need the 6v Pertronix fitting then and then bringing back to be fitted up with the bits I have been getting for it.
I hope to get it ready for Vanfest show and shine on Sunday, but as always I have got 1,000,0001 other things to do, so if it ain't at Malvern it will be at the Classic Car Show on the sea-front.

Cheers dude. I just wish I had the time and skills to do it myself. At least this way I know it is a top job being done and I know my kids are safe when they are in it.

booked in to paint shop tomorrow

is shaun not painting it he painted my brothers double cab and did the mirror mods. he was on about taking it back to him for a bit of a spruce up was done 6 years ago now

Edited. I got my wires crossed. Classy are painting it too, either Shaun or Pete are doing it but not at their unit. The booth they have is in town as they haven't had the one in Banwell built up yet.

I went down to see the car on Friday, it was just being finished off prior to paint. Tied up a couple of little things that I feel will finish the car off. I am awaiting some more pics from the guys before I can post a couple more up. I should be getting it back later this week.

The latest installment.
Engine out (again) to get the gearbox out for welding and to change the clutch which we decided may as well be done whilst we are there.

And then out with the drivetrain.


Oooh, look at me horns!!!


A localised clean up was required to be able to weld the hairline crack.


Initial attempts to weld the gearbox casing were not very succesful. A pook of material was just forming on the surface of the casing. Take 2, using some material cut from a scrap gearbox, and VOILA!




And it is now all sealed up. Woo Hoo, no more leak!


Whilst the drive train was out the rear drums were whipped off and changed over to discs. (The rear drums are for sale as complete units by the way). I don't have any pics of the conversion at the moment. Needless to say they look great. The master cylinder has also been swapped over to a Porsche unit to increase fluid displacement and therefore give me much improved brakes.

The old girl was then loaded onto a trailer and went off to the spray booth.


It is to be sprayed this morning so things are looking good for later this week.


The engine has also been given a tune and the carbs re-balanced as well as the timing all sorted.

The next pics should be shiny ones!!!
