Gungeys resto thread official!!

I have kind of cocked up on this thread!! I moved the pics into a new folder and its now not finding the pics in the thread!! lol

I went out the unit the other night and flatted down the roof, I didnt have any P180, so used P240 (lets just say it took a little longer than normal!!)



Removed the rear bumper and wings and I was faced with very flakey stone chips etc, so out with the scraper, heat gun, wire brush, goggles, gimp mask and heater (as its bloody freezing out there!!).



I started scraping the n/s rear wheel arch to find out that there really is nothing this poor old bug hasnt been through!! She had a orange rear!! (graphed on to it).
IO think I am going to name the bug Frankinstien due to all the donor parts it has on it!!).


Got most of it off, and found a few other small areas that need attention, so back out with the welder!! BOOOOOO

OK OK, So I havent posted on this for a while!!

Right, I lost a lot of pics but hear are a few.

Big thanks to Joker67 and Nomates for there help on the bug lately.

Nomates has very kindly done some welding on the floor pan and the rear inner wing.

Joker has helped me with just about every thing else!! filling, snading, filling sanding. I really cant thank you enough buddy.









Then I started on the rear grill, god that was fun!!




Then got some etch on it




The rear quarter panels have been the bain of my life so far, but we nearly got them straight, then bought some really good filler and finished them off




Then rattle canned them in etch




I lost my way one night so dismantled the engine!! lol





And made bits nice and shinny!! pics to follow on this

So hear is Frankinstien tonight





Then we got really carried away and did this!!







Again, massive thanks to joker67 for teaching me spraying tonight.

Next is filler primer!! not not for a week or so!

It looks great, still quite a few imperfections but I am really stoked by it. Joker got the rear quarters absolutely cock on.

I WILL come down and elp you out again ....you know how it is ther eis always a million things you 'should' be doing ...lol

Now theres the 10 million dollar question!!

I wanted it to be black with grey sides, however black is not a very forgiving colour and it does have imperfections in it.
I have still to spray on the 2 coats of filler primer so I will have to look at it when its finally preped for final coat.

The trouble is, I cant think of any other colour I want it. I have had a white beetle and hated the colour, the first bug I had built was black and I loved it.
