| Well here goes, I'm totally new to cars, although I spend my days fixing trains and until recently was running a classic type vespa as a daily rider (baaaaad idea).
Good points; the floor is sound (having jumped around inside) and the underside looks ok, the interior is complete, the hood seems to be free although stiff and the engine has been dry stored, the clipper kit is intact but tatty.
Bad; the engines out and still in Bridgewater, the roof has a huge tear, the seat covers are water damaged, at least one of the bumpers need renewing.
Weekend one, the old haynes manual is in the post, the interior was laid out on the drive to check it's all there, and the water drained floor checked.
Since my laptop is beign stupid, pics are here: clicky linky | |

| So last weekend I got wrapped up and decided to fit the gearshift rebuild bits. Had a bit of a fight getting the gearstick out, so I had to unleash the angle grinder (next time I think it needs jacking up, I burnt a hole in my hoody) Kit of parts, using the write up on the mark one owners club this looked like a piece of urine... note to self, print off and follow instructions next time. The red bush supports the shaft under the bulkhead, this was a pig to fit, the 2 part mounting has frozen solid, so I ended up pouring a kettle of boiling water over both bush and mount and hey presto, it popped straight in. rebuilt, but awaiting a new gaiter post payday and a little greasing up... The only thing is... I'm left with two rivets, and no obvious place (besides the bin) to put them in... This weekend the seat frames were wire brushed and kurust treated so I can hammerite them one night this week. I've also cut some soft wood packing pieces so I can use the back bench seat as a sofa in my room until the car is finished Over and out. 'Nam | |

| Cheers, hopefully after my driving test I'll have some extra cash to get cracking properly, I'm still aiming for a new hood, running and on coilovers for my birthday... | |

| Turns out the missing lever was... ...in the sludge at the bottom of the bucket of bits... COCK! It's fitted, the oil and filters got changed before I got dragged off to fix a friends mini (now done his engine gaskets, carb set up and it's finally playing ball ) hopefully I can get the belts on, engine timed aaaaaaand the correct dizzy/arm on for the next weekend, so I can get the engine in on my monday off before my driving test. I'm now going to be flat out to get it done asap, I really want to get it down to combe martin to show my grandad (an ex mechanic) before his cancer gets hold... Pictures to follow | |

| ahhh unasked question answered... I will mostly be sneaking off to get a pot mixed up to redo the rough bits! In other news, the passenger footwell has been emptied of all the nuts and bolts it was storing. gave them a quick clean and sort out... turns out from a HUGE pile of bits in need a handful to put the engine. This should happen sometime tomoro with any luck. From this... To this... I've also bunged the calipers back on the front, after cleaning them and fitting a set of pads. AND my wheels turn | |
