Cheers. Apparently it's supposed to go around the gearbox, so I dunno what this one is doing.... gone AWOL lol

More work done today. I took off the rear wings and bumper so I could bolt them together properly and then refitted them with added lights:


Seems to fit pretty well, which is nice.

Chucked on the sill to see what it looked like:




Not looking forward to fitting them properly - seems like a nightmare. No idea how you get the one on the door to sit right...



Then I decided to pull the other gutter strip out and look at the rust on the passenger side. I knew this side was worse than the other side, but thankfully, it's not as bad as it looks again:

I've treated it with Kurust again, so hopefully that'll be the end of that for a while!

Good work. What wheels are you going to use to fill those arches?? Is there anyway of wide traking the front and maybe lengthen the rear axle? I dont know what setup new beetles run.

they're the same as a mk4 Golf.

Moved Robbie in the garage today. He was NOT impressed! The battery on him is dead, so whilst I was waiting for Steve to move Joey out of the garage, he just cut out and didn't want to start again. He restarted on a jump start from Steve's T5, but cut out again after a matter of seconds. After getting him stuck right in the middle of the road, we tried to swap his battery with Herbies, but couldn't work out how to get Herbie's out so stole Joey's instead. That was enough to get him going again and into the garage. Guess I need to get a new battery then lol.

same red and he is now.

Been doing some more sanding. First of all had to remove the stripes from his bonnet. Left lots of glue which I has to use panel wipe to remove.


Then the badge came off:


I've decided to take the bonnet back to bare metal. He's done over 107k miles so he's got plenty of stone chips, plus there's a couple of small dents caused by large stones.

It's slow going, but starting to get there:


Did most of the driver's side wing too. Need to remove it to do the rest:


I also removed the stripes and lettering off the driver's side sill. There was a couple of suspicious looking bubbles in the paint by the rear quarter. Knowing this is a common place for classic Bugs to rot, I dug out the angle grinder and put the sanding disk over it:


Thankfully nothing sinister. The white you can see is sealant:


One of the sills has been badly painted. It looks as if whoever painted if didn't bother to prep the panel, and this is what happens:


Paint just flakes off!

at least now is the right time to find poor repairs, well done and keep up the good work

Yeah I got the body kit part painted. It's all in different colours lol. Some of it has been done ok, but some of it is terrible.

Thankfully the car himself doesn't appear to have had any paintwork done, apart from the front bumper I fitted to him.
