PostSubject: Re: 68 Bug   68 Bug - Page 5 EmptySat Oct 17, 2009 5:21 pm

the bits of metal was me bud, it went for mot and when you applied the hand break the lever dropped,
mot man said stick some metal under there so the leaver has no play as its a fail for the hanbreak leaver to have play.

if you pull the handbreak up then let it go it drops, MOT fail Very Happy

gutted about the welding youve found, in my deffence though not me lol i only did front end Very Happy

68 Bug - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: 68 Bug   68 Bug - Page 5 EmptySat Oct 17, 2009 5:55 pm

I thought it must've been for adjustment.

From http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m3s03000001.htm

Examine the condition of the brake lever and its location.
4. With the brake lever in the “off” position

a. Check the amount of side play in the lever pivot by moving the lever from side to side.
Note: Some vehicles have sideways movement of the parking brake lever when new.
Movement is a reason for rejection only when
• the pawl is moved clear of the ratchet, and
• the brake does not hold in the ‘on’ position

b. check the security of the lever and pawl mechanism pivots, their associated mountings and the presence and effectiveness of retaining and locking devices.

Reasons for rejection

3. The brake lever is defective or so located that it cannot be operated satisfactorily.
4.
a. side play in the brake lever pivot to the extent that the pawl may inadvertently disengage
b. the lever or pawl mechanism pivots and their associated mountings are insecure or a locking or retaining device is insecure or missing.

My old mans a tester and when he looked at it he said that'd be fine, because when its adjusted right it doesnt disengage... It moves a bit, but doesnt 'drop'. Did it totally let go when you had it without the metal bits wedged in? If so I may have to rethink... I guess your tester was just being efficient.

Carl, Dude, no need to defend yourself mate, i know you did some good stuff, I bought it unseen, and a lot can happen in a year I guess. Its just one of them things... With the back seat out both inner wing corners behind the regulator and battery are complete seam sealer and plate heaven, but its too late now!!! Its like my old na's fave patchwork quilt Crying or Very sad

Nomates - you rock! I had to check dude!!! Are you about tomoz, I will whizz over and return your drums, can make it early late whatever...

On the funny side, i put all the minging carpets and seats in the garage... I was tidying up and saw somthing scurry... A mouse and his family have made them home it seems, more old man rage incurred!!!

Change of direction on this.
Looking for storage or sale depending on what comes first. I won't be happy to bodge it through another mot, I'd feel safer on a unicycle, its as solid as a paper bag. Not viable as a quick mot and drivable project unfortunatly, so its back to the drawing board - good job it was cheap eh?!

Looking at a couple of workshops/storage places today and tomorrow.
A bit more than I wanted to pay, but may go halves with kims uncle as he's just bought/buying another brisca f2 car, fingers crossed...

No, not too much work, but you know how these things tend to spiral - if Im gonna have a keeper worth having its the only way, but I don't want to take the piss and rob Old Parse of his driveway and leave crap everywhere... May need to get an extra paper round though!

Believe me, I've already put him through hell, on more occasions than I can remember lol!

If things go to plan, Bug will be moving home shortly, and normal service will be resumed, ie, taking things apart and forgetting/failing to put them back together. geek
