Are the trim holes lined up? just that in the pic it looks like the quarter holes are higher then the door holes might just be the pics..

mexican 1/4 panels have holes higher up than german panels.

Latest update

since the rear qurter was welded in ....the welds have been ground flat and filled ....but you'll have to take my word as there are no pics as yet ....and with the help of scoopy ....(cheers dude) the car was rolled down the drive ...turned round and pushed back up ready to work on the other quarter ....except I don't have another quarter to fit ...and I can't get one either .....

so I have to do it with repair panels ....in sections .....fortunately I was given a part quarter that had benn fitted and then removed (bullied with an air chisel) again

hers some pics of the damage and how I've started to repair it

this is the part panel ...bits air chiseled through ...and som bad patches welded in ....(this was by a profession restoration company by the way )








so not the best of panels to start with eehh?

so i started with drilling out the spot welds on the bumper mount


and the support mount


then I drilled out the spot welds that hold on the support panel ...sorry no pics

then I cut out the damage to the wheel arch


then i made a repair section from some sheet steel




then i started to weld it in



welds ground back


then i started to repair the rear quarter ...with a few small repair panels







then the hard part....fitting it!!.....no where near finished yet ...hopefully my up dat of the finished panel tomorrow ....here it is so far

One word though dude, your spring plate are at risk of cracking where you've notched them because you've cut them in to a point thats where they'll crack... So if i was you i'd make it more rounded...
I'll try and find a pic of what i mean..

A bit like this dude but don't have to be as much as that... Just make the rear edge rounded..

You need a radii in there Steve-O. I would suggest at least 20mm rad if possible. A sharp corner like that is just going to attract all the stress running through the plate like iron filings to a magnet!

I did drill a hole before cutting it ....guess it wasn't big enough tho' .....thanks chaps

Holy shit thats alot of work ive only just seen your rustoration thread how on earth did the shell not destort out of shape i was under the impresion that if you cut that much metal without bracing it the tub would twist beyond repair, fair play to you not for the faint hearted your hardcore!

there are measurements available to check ....door gaps ect ....so i just cut it up and made sure they measurered correctly ....the door gaps are quite good .....not perfect , but thats more the fact I put door skins on.

i had a feeling that was going in there, hows that exhaust i sold you any joy with that , i hope you managed to fix it up allrite, whats the spec on your engine again sorry, just interested to see what other 1200 bugs are running around with,

not started the engine yet .....just getting a heads up on parts dude ....the exhaust will be fine .....or I may make my own custom one yet ....time will tell

Ok quick up date ....all the structual welding is done ...

here's a pic of the finished wheel arch ....all welds ground back and rear quarter is finished and any filler has been sanded down .......body work next

Shit the bed dude! That's a very nice job... Especially considering what you had to work with. Keep up the good work. Can't be that much further till it's ready for paint.
