Today's update........and Blimey was it ever cold !!.....two day's now working in this temperature and I think the cold has got into my bones now Smile

I didn't get as much done as I wanted too ....as the heater channel
that I had prepared (rust proofed) for fitting turned out to be for the other side lol! ....

Also I found sooooo many plates around the rear closing panel for the heater channels ....it took me best part of the morning just cutting them out ....ready for some new metal Cool .....in fact there were about 5 layers of metal plates ....plus a 1/4 inch of filler on the rear quarters ...it must have been about 2 inches wider than stock!! Shocked

anyway here's the pic's

firstly I finished welding in the new inner wing ...however I need to cut and re-position the bottom section as it doesn't meet the vertical gutter like it should ..
The Nomates Rustoration :) - Page 2 Vwbeeltle1965resto2001DesktopResolu

Then I drilled out the spot welds on the heater channel

The Nomates Rustoration :) - Page 2 Vwbeeltle1965resto2006DesktopResolu

and then rust proofed the inside of it
The Nomates Rustoration :) - Page 2 Vwbeeltle1965resto2003DesktopResolu

then I set too on the rear section
The Nomates Rustoration :) - Page 2 Vwbeeltle1965resto2007DesktopResolu

The Nomates Rustoration :) - Page 2 Vwbeeltle1965resto2008DesktopResolu

then I had to make a simple repair panel...(which didn't fit lol! )
The Nomates Rustoration :) - Page 2 Vwbeeltle1965resto2009DesktopResolu

then I measured the door gap ...and tacked in the heater channel

The Nomates Rustoration :) - Page 2 Vwbeeltle1965resto2015

The Nomates Rustoration :) - Page 2 Vwbeeltle1965resto2014

And tomorrow I will be taking it off again ...cos I forgot to put the flexible heating tube on lol! geek

PostSubject: Re: The Nomates Rustoration :)   The Nomates Rustoration :) - Page 2 EmptySun Jan 04, 2009 8:47 pm

just a little update today ...

welded in the rest of the wing
The Nomates Rustoration :) - Page 2 Vwbeetle1965resto3001DesktopResolut

part of the over lap (on the vertical gutter was rotten)
The Nomates Rustoration :) - Page 2 Vwbeetle1965resto3002DesktopResolut

so i gave it a dose of rust proofing. then welded a strip in to replace the rusty bit
The Nomates Rustoration :) - Page 2 Vwbeetle1965resto3003DesktopResolut

so then after I tack welded every thing in place ,i started on the other side
The Nomates Rustoration :) - Page 2 Vwbeetle1965resto3004DesktopResolut

The Nomates Rustoration :) - Page 2 Vwbeetle1965resto3005DesktopResolut

next time I wil hopefully start on the other a pillar repair Smile

You will have to ask Dave, as I havent been involved at all in this!!.

There was alot (ALOT) more rot in the sill than I had thought, but Dave has done a great job on that, the door pillar, front inner wing, rear quarter panels (left and right), a little in the floor pan, bulk head!! (still the doors to look at!!)
But he has also been working on the front beam!! all I can say is SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET so far, do you want a taster??
