Well the engines in- the drivers side mount was a proper pain in the arse. Half the wiring is done but I'm in the dark with some of the remnants... I also seem to be missing a few carb pipes ( not so bad since I want to fit a weber or similar in place of the pierburg)

It lives! I hate to say it but I reckon getting it on the road for my birthday might still happen...
I've had it running (minus exhaust) today, and it sounds ok, I appear to be missing a couple of cable mounts though, and still need to figure out what I can do with the gearbox plug.
Anyone want to buy a fiat?

Ok, I'm too wet to continue, the pics will be loaded up when my phone is dry...
So, the driveshafts have been stripped, greased and re assembled, with a new outer cv joint on one, but whilst fitting the short one it appears the wheel bearing is shagged. A pair of new bearings have been aquired, and will be pressed in at work tomorrow, then the hubs stripped off painted and new brake backplates found/painted up
Therefore, the front end is in bits, the two hub assemblies are bagged up, the discs, wishbones, anti roll bar and mounts have all been taken down, given a wirebrushing and a couple of thin coats of paint and the base of the suspension struts similarly treated.
Since this is no longer a simple refresh, I've decided to order a pack of rear mounts, hand brake cables, hubs/bearings, shoes, and fixings in order to strip and rebuild the rear in the same way.
The bad news is since running it I've noticed the alternator pulley nut has wound itself off, so before doing anything more with the carb I'll have to take the end cover off and check all the belts and the security of the locknuts

YES PLEASE! I've already got the front wheel bearings at work, so I'll fit them now but anything to refurbish the back end (pardon?) would be welcome, I'll find some cider come Friday (payday) and catch you at the end of monther if I can make it?
I'm also hunting front backplates, and anti roll bar clamps for the front if anyone/thing else is out there!
stripped ready to wirebrush and paint - most of the beige in the wheelarch is actully mud, the vw black being pretty sound paint.
Anyone got one of the little clamp pieces like this (I have the lower body part, just not the tab).

Done a bit of head scratching and ekta work... it appears I have 1.3l calipers fitted, so I'm off to find a get of 1.8 or gti calipers, discs and pads, any pointers welcome, I'll try gsf and a couple of guys on the mk1 oc forum before splashing out at gsf...

Cheers gunge, a set of gti calipers will be arriving next week, I'm Ordering seals and lines later/tomorrow before a week away courtesy of fgw so hopefully next weekend I'll be wrapped up and able to drive it off the drive, turn it round and attack the rear end

After finding Boone has a fiat clutch cable I decided to spend the day on the golf, trying to track down the death rattle I was getting when the engine was running.
Turns out after stripping back all the covers, they were missing the rubber edging strip, the drive belts are still tensioned ok, all the proof marks I left are lined up too so none of the bolts have shifted.
However, cranking the engine over it appears that the alternator pulley and fan are spinning of their own accord!
Time to get the punches and chisel out... I'm assuming it only meant to be a woodruff key and some sort of parallel key for the sleeve/fan.
I've also dropped off the 1.3 calipers and drained the brake system ready for lines, calipers and fluid sometime soon. Transmission fluid next maybe...

Empty house for a couple of days and three days of work -
All the seat covers refitted, someone from work is gonna tension them correctly for me. It does appear one of the seat pull cables has snapped though, because the pax seat won't tilt foward.
Hopefully I can get one of the cleaners at work to shampoo the seats for me sometime soon. When the rain stops I'll rescue the doorcards and try foam cleaning them.
Lastly - that woodruff key? turns out it's the same as a lambretta series three flywheel one...which means I probs have one in my stash, but for now I've splashed out 20p on a new one! Once again, when the rain holds out, I'll fit it.
Next months goal - new brake lines, seals, tubes... then it should be drivable
workshop tunage?

Seats in and it feels like a car again. The passenger pull cord will be ordered later and the rear seat will go to work to get tensioned, the door cards will get shampooed/clean next weekend at work
