I bought this car off e/bay, back in end 2006, from a guy he advised that the car was not that bad, and the top looked good from the pictures i had.
My face just dropped when it turned up. My stupid fault for not looking at the car. Will never trust anyone from pictures again.
so poo or bust i decided to carry on the resto.

this one of the pics i recieved before buying

Looking good mate Cool don't it makes you feel good that another classic is being saved from the crusher to live another day regardless of the time/effort put into it.

got a new chrome plated 75 amp altenator , and a beam from big boys toys/heritage.

beam was a recon complete beam axle to axle lhd, new ball joints and seals, no play in bearings at all inc disc hubs.
£78-00 delivered.
couldnt have even bought a set of ball joints and fitted them for this price.

i dont mind cutting the baem up to narrow it for this price, not so expensive if i f*** it up.

almost re-built the top end of my 1600cc , heads off , new tubes de-coke heads and pistons, lap in valves.
repaint block in silver with met black barrells, heads not painted.

i need to fit a fly wheel oil seal, does anyone have this tool to undo the gland nut, as i cannot get enough leverage to undo it at the moment.
"The Joker 67" Bug resto New_star

and one of these to put seal in.
"The Joker 67" Bug resto AC000150
help would be very much appriciated.

Can't help on either of the tools I'm afraid, but I have heard that a suitably 'used' angle grinder disk works just as well... how true that is, I don't know.. i've never done it.

On weekend got some more done ( no pics as yet will get some posted)
got engine lid on and lined up, re-profiled both inner rear wings behind bumper mounts, as differant shape to early ones, had to cut a section out as tried to beat into shape but just did not look right so cut out and made a section, then welded both hookeys rear bumper mounts on, lined up rear valance and trial fitted both rear wings.
did'nt seem much progress as just time consuming getting everything lined up and shutting.

bought a few more goodies,
genuine hurst shifter, hust wood gear knob.
genuine empi door pulls.
chrome 009 , blue coil, bosch leads.

engine all back together, trial fitted most of the tin wear, as usual some did not fit (scat kit as well) so used original head tin and scat fan housing.

still to do on engine,
carb kit still very undecided what to get.maybe this kit
http://www2.cip1.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=C15%2D30435EC
exhaust , undecided on this, as car will be quite low so don't want anything hanging down, might keep standard with one of these kits
http://www2.cip1.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=ACC%2DC10%2D6050

get tinwear for under cylinders, front and rear.
a few deress up parts and roker covers
engine will be pretty much done, only a standard 1600cc.

then on to the front end welding, 2x wings, 2x inner 1/4, bulkhead panel, f/panl, and wheel well. then the shell will be welded.
i can then strip off floor and finish that off.
then the re-build can begin.

thanks, i have had plenty of practise over the years, worked for 10 yrs as a panel beater does help. But have not worked as one since 1995, last car i restored was type 3 between 95 and 97.
so a bit rusty on the skills front.
