The 66 Chop Top!!!

Next up is the dash! I've got an idea in my head of how I want it. I just think it's gonna be alot of work to get it!... Many, many hours on the english wheel!

you will never live that down dave on the way back from volksworld last year i pulled in petrol station put fuel in and had no cash and they couldnt take card as machine was screwed i still get the piss ripped now

It broke down again today, due to no fuel!!! The new pump shot the pivot pin and just gave up! Bloody cheap tat!!!
Thankfully the pin was still in the engine bay and I just hammered it back in!

Well, tonight Dave decided to roof chop the bug, in one night, knowing full well that we need the car tomorrow!! Yea, i know, hes mad!!

This is what it looked like before he got his hands on it with the angle grinder...



First off, we had to completely strip the interior, seats, door cards, accumlated crap etc, then the windows had to go...





Then out came the headliner....



Dave then started marking up for where he was going to cut and for how much he was going to take out...





That all done it was time to let him loose with the angle grinder...







Then with a bit of gentle persuasion, off came the roof...





All that was left for tonight was to weld some bits of plate on the door pillars to give it some added strength for the drive home.



Then we taped up all the pillars with bubble wrap to hide any nasty sharp edges for the drive home and to climb in. I mean climb in as he decided to weld the plates in so that the doors are welded shut!

Bloody cold drive home, and some how managed not to get pulled even though we drove past a police car!

Hopefully he should have the roof welded back in tomorrow, so fingers crossed!!

Is it worth stressing to people (altho im not sure anyone else is mad enough) that you shouldnt just chop the roof off and drive about as you've lost all the strength from the roof.

Thats awesome man... Inspirational... this club is going ot have the lowest average roof height ever by the end of the summer! If you are welding it up tonight is there a chance I could come over and check out what you are up to? would be some good learning to see how its done...

Well, this is how it looked thismorning




I do have to admit that when we were on our way home last night, I did think to myself, Maybe I am a little mad!?!?


Back to work today to try and graft the roof on, on my own! My little helper had to work!


















That's the main part of the roof on and welded! Still got loads of little bits to fabricate and fit! It's a hell of a lot more work than I first thought!

But it'll be worth it!
