Test Description

Both front doors must be openable from the inside and outside and all doors must latch securely.

Tan thats all i can find on the mot rules for doors so i think solenoids may pass just the motier has it wong

I know some MOTers will fail them for being unsafe because in a crash the doors wouldn't able to be opened from the ouside.. We've had a few fail for that reason....

The easy way out of it for the mot is to fit a bar to the door mech's and run it out through the door glass with a knob on the end so you just push it to open the door... Or a handle and pull it depending on which way they go..

Easy as that hun..

Take out the door glass and leave them out for the mot, then you can open it by reaching through the window...
It cant fail an mot that way!
Same as the wiper & washer trick, leave out your front screen, that way you dont have a use for wipers or washers!

It's deffo a grey area Tan, as I've had solenoids on my bug since '92 & some MOT'ers are anal about the wording & others not .... as long as BOTH doors can be opened remotely from the outside it shouldn't fail.

Some early MG's didn't have outside handles & they pass. The rule is really there to stop cars passing if their door handle are broken. I think you'll find that there's a note in the MOT guidance saying that it'll pass if there's no handles cos of the design OR cos of permanent modification.

The solenoids were fitted today and the doors now open with the touch of a button. Unfortunatley the drivers door sticks a bit and needs a helpfull yank to open, but fingers crossed once we fit some rubbers and have a fiddle with it they should both open to perfection.
we are beginning to get there, I was hoping to have her ready for CTTP but that isn't gonna happen now so Vanwest here we come!!!

Bella's pass door needs a helpfull yank to open it too, so I wouldn't worry too much

Its ok when the window is down, but when its up theres not much to grip onto!

Thats i will have the window down for the mot anyway

So whats left to do???

Sort indicators and main beam
Bleed brakes (fingers crossed brake lights will start working then)
Fit popes nose
Get doors to open a little easier!

MOT TIME

Get her slammed
Change wheels to standards with hubcaps
Mount bumpers
fit Snowflakes
Fit indicators
A bit of pinstriping

And for the time being thats the way she will stay, Think it will ake a few years to collect all the pars I want to turn her into my dream oval!

No just dont 12 hours today and im shattered

Well Beryl is back up the unit now ready for the last few things to get her through an MOT.
We gav up with the solenoids for the min and have decided to use pulls to get her through the MOT.
The brakes have been bled and now only need adjusting. W also need to get the indicators, brake lights and main beam working. Sounds simple but you know how it is!

I'll have a good nose round when i'm down the unit later, haven't seen it up close yet... I take it i've still got a gap down there?!!

She`s gonna stay as she is for the next couple of years untill I can save up and get some original bits and bobs etc. She's hopefully gonna have some pinstriping done soon to add a bit of colour. Eventually I would like her either a chocolate brown or coral red, but I'll prob change my mind....

You do have a space still, but only just, Ive been asked twice if someone can rent it!!

Well a HUGE thankyou to Damien for getting the indicators, brake lights and head lights working, we are now one step closer to getting her to Bristol.
Now for the list of stuff that needs doing!!

New Number Plates
Get popes nose working
Get legal tyres on
Get washer jets squirting!
Remove windows
Adjust rear brakes
New wiper blades
Deck lid cable needs connecting
Finish sanding her back
Solder the wire on back of indicator stalk
Finish hammerite underneath and on inner wings

Im sure there is more but I will have to wait for Carl to wake up and let me know! Afterall he is the brains behind this resto, (Thanks hun xx).
