PostSubject: Looking for a project   Looking for a project EmptyWed Oct 11, 2017 10:33 pm

Hi! We used to have a VW T4 Holdsworth motorhome which gave us many adventures.
We eventually realised that it was too big for our needs, so we are now looking for an early or late T2 bay as a project to restore.
Have you any ideas about making our idea into a reality?

Hi Mark,
You say you are after a project, are you looking for a restoration to complete, or a solid base vehicle with with to start a conversion?
What sort of budget are you looking to spend?

Hi Mr Scoops

At the moment, we think we’re looking for a solid base vehicle for 8-10k and go from there? Maybe looking at importing a RHD? (That seems a little scary?!)

I feel that I need to talk to as many people as possible as I’m just not sure.
Essentially, we’d like to be off camping next summer, somehow in a T2 Camper!

Have a look on the EarlyBay.com forum as as well as Early Bay Appreciation Society on Facebook.
From what I’ve seen the price of base vans has come down a touch.
I’ll post up any links I see

Hi Mark, If you do import a bus, as scary as it might seem, you can save yourself a lot of money. Depending where you buy from, prices can be so much lower than the UK. Personally, I wouldnt disregard a LHD bus. I've owned one in the past and loved it. When at car parks or a drive through, there is enough space to scoot across to the passenger seat with ease. The only thing I found was if I was following a bus too closely and it stopped at a bus stop, without a passenger with you, you just have to wait for it to pull away again. Laughing That was the only downside I found to owning a LHD and I used it as a daily driver.

Good luck with the search, and post up some pics of what you find. Looking for a project Hangloos

Thanks for asking. This will be a long slow burn; We’ve got a plan with Moore’s Motors in Clevedon - where we live - he’s looking out for an import which he will strip back, Re-spray and sort out the mechanicals then we can start on the interior - we’re aiming for something fairly basic - tin-top, full width seat / bed, cooker, fridge, porta potty, a good sound system (heater? Hot water bottle?) for weekends once a month or so by next summer

I have just wondered if I could gain some experience by offering some time to you or others in the group with your campers - I have a bit of electro/mechanical experience as I used to work as an installation engineer with generators and used to maintain my own vehicles before they got too complicated - on board computers, ugh!
Just no direct experience with T2’s!
Even if it’s making the tea and passing you spanners, that would increase my experience loads!

Regards
MarkE
