For the last couple years I've been looking out for a decent 1302/03 with the plan of doing a circuit racer themed car.
Went and had a look at a bug advertised on here by babydavid, he was straight up, and a good guy, it needed a lot and had a nice long fail sheet.
but it was my preferred model being flat screened and tax exempt, and a deal was struck.
So as it stands in all its beige non glory...
What I know. The framehead and various vital inner wing areas require work, as do parts of the rear quarters and gutters, front and rear valance wings doors blah blah. The paint is flat, part respray/overspray/original colour. This will never be a pretty car. It might be purposeful. Bernard newbury int, front seats are past there best and not to my taste, or the style of the car, rest is smart and may flog on. Disks up front Longer ratio gearbox 1600 that starts and runs (but not for long as there is a mahoosive fuel leak at the front of the car). Recon unit on v low miles with paperwork. All electrics work. Lots of ICE that will be up for sale soon.
Thanks for looking folks

No proper updates, but I have scored four ATS Classics in straight, nearly new condition for the Bug, 15 x 7J so fair bit wider than the norm and fucking light compared to the larger Porsche rims I was considering Apparently there are some 9J ones floating about, but can't find any for the back end! Fun road trip to Runcorn and a diversion to Stoke on way back which nearly got me stabbed up thanks to olly Will get pics when its not arseing down.

Already done! Just a bit of spidering under the laquer, which I was going to do away with and just keep them polished nice. 4 X 130 fitment as well so no fucking about with adaptors/spacers/headaches!!! Nice and simple just like me!

Did a little assessment of the bug this afternoon, seeing as I haven't really touched it in a year and a half.
First I had a bit of a play with the welder I picked up from Anton. It was meant to be working fine, but first I put a new plug on it as the old one was smashed and bent so I couldn't actually get it in a socket, glad I did as the fuse was wrapped in tin foil too. Once plugged no wire was getting through, took it all apart and the inner torch liner is loose and fucked, so that was the end of that.
So had a poke around and the best bodge I found was a near complete boot floor very neatly riveted and no more nails'd on top of the rusty fucked one. Inner wing rot has really took hold and the heater channels have some grot bubbles now too.
Its a case of knowing where to start, as each section is as rotten as the last! I'll try and take pics of the worst bits on the next dry day we have!!!

Appreciate the apology and offer chap, mates like that are great aren't they. I've already got the spares coming to give it a try at the weekend so not bothered enough to want a refund thanks anyways.

So decided to start on o/s rear quarter area as its access able, which means also doing boot floor and crossmember area... Working out on the drive in the sun for the first time in a while!
O/s rear quarter
Boot floor with repair section riveted and glued on top of rusty original
Removed
Inner wing area is plate over plate at mo
Pretty ripe eh?! I'm aware its not really economically viable but I'm treating this more as an exercise in what can be done bit by bit. So I'll be on the lookout for large section repair panels or body cuts on vzi and ebay, on a tight budget so no genuine quarters going in unfortunately!!!
