| Made a start on the spring mount. Mocked it up on the car just to check all my measurements were right. I changed my mind on where to mount the hair pins. I was gonna mount them to a bracket under the 'pan. But decided it would look cak as the lines won't flow. So they're now gonna bolt to a boss welded in the heater channel. | |

When it's bolted to just the 'pan, it does look out of proportion. But under the body it looks ok. Most cars that run a drop tube axle would have a "flatter" spring because it would sit under the chassis. On a volksrod there's plenty of room for it. I'll be removing some leaves to get a nice ride. But probably not as many as I first thought, as the front end weighs a ton now.

No that's cool mate. I do agree on just the pan it does not look right at all. When I first bothed it on then stood back to take a look my first thought was Bollocks... Something aint right. But after measuring everything 5 times, it's exactly how I wanted it.

| He loves it. Saturday morning he had a propper spazz cos he wanted to "work" on it. I had to give in in the end and spent an hour in the garage with him. No actual progress to report on though. It's gonna go on the back burner for a couple of weeks while I get the CTTP trophies hammered out. I think I've decided that it'll get some scratch built front quarter panels. (next job on the list) They need a lower repair and I wanna modify them a little, so figure starting from scratch will be quicker. | |

| 1 pair of steels banded! While I was there I thought I'd fill the holes to make them smooth. Just need a clean and some paint and they're ready for tyres. | |

| Lovely bit of welding on them steels mate. Did you do the banding yourself? I want a set of banded steels for the golf but refuse to pay the likes of 'Wide wheels' £350 to do it. | |

| Thanks mate, they're all my own work. I could probably do you a set for a lot less than that! Plus I'd TIG weld them rather than MIG. TIG's a lot stronger weld. | |

| How did you cut and weld them true? Did you make up a rig or do it all by hand? My only concern with Banded steels on my golf is that i dont know how much vibration there would be at over 100mph. They would be ideal for shows and slow speed cruising though | |

| No fancy equipment, all done by hand the old skool way... Keep measuring and checking for square every step of the way.
I know some people aren't keen on banded wheels, but I'm more than confident my wheels will take any amount of abuse thrown at them... And I'm thinking maybe an engine swap may eventually be on the cards. Putting a lot of horsepower through them.
