| As this car's gonna go in a totally different direction to what Rich was planning, I thought I'd start a new thread. The plan is a volksrod... 5" chop, dropped tube front axle, Safari, suicide clutch, aluminium "upholstery", shiney paint and detailed to the max, along with a few other custom touches along the way. Made a start on the pan... As I won't be running a back seat I want to keep the rear clean, I'll move the battery under the bonnet, So I removed the battery clamps from the pan. I don't want heaters either. so removed the control lever mounts and filled in a few holes to make it a bit smoother. With any luck, I'll get some paint on it by next week. | |

| Cheers guys. Originally I was gonna run tuck n roll, front and rear bench seats. But then had a better idea. Low back bucket seats with tuck n roll detail, made entirely out of sheet aluminium and then polished. It'll be a bit harsh on the ass, but should look cooler than a snowmans cold bits. | |

| At long last, I'm able to update this thread! Frustrated by the lack of time I've had on the bug, I've taken this week as holiday and went into work to start on the front axel. IMO a volksrod just aint a 'rod unless it's got a 30's style front axel... So I started with the hairpins. Bent some tube Machined a boss so thay can be mounted with rose joints Then tacked them together Added some sheet metal Fully seam welded Cleaned the welds up and added the front mounting bosses And just to look good, added some speed holes. Welded in some 2" tube for extra strength then cleaned the welds off Now for the axel it's self. Cut and tacked up some 2" tube.... Ideally bending it would have been better. But I don't know of any where local that can bend 50mm x 6mm tube. Our bender just aint up to that size tube. It's bloody heavy duty! Tacked the spring perch in place Then bolted up the spring Then tacked the hairpin bosses in And finished up tonight with it looking like this Tomorrow I'll start on the spindles and get everything fully welded. | |
