Well this project with me and captionwig.
Me and steve both have a passion for hot rods and we have been planing this project for the past 6 months or so.

Last night we bit the bullet and got us are base car!

ebay lovely, only just up the road in bristol. £155. We are hoping it's tax free but it will be a bonus if it is!! Well the plan is now to remove the engine and gearbox and recond both. we have a doner beetle to which we are going to use for parts. We are then going to get it through an MOT.

Engine running 1200cc
floors and heater chanels are good.
The N/S door and front wing are rusty
seats have some rips in them
needs clutch
brake need fixing

Once passed then the fun can begin............. Twisted Evil

the easy way to extend the beam is to use the bay area rods kit it takes about an hour to fit and is very good bit of kit (mine survived a head on with a bin lorry!)

i cant remember the website address at the moment but i know its posted on here somewhere!

are you comming to the club meet?

haha, I know its a bit late but I have been in contact with the transport guy today and we take delivery next saturday! I cant wait to see what state its in, drop out the engine and gearbox and recondition the hell out of them, this thing is going to purr!
Should be ready for run-to-the sun for sure... although not much to look at! If anyone could help with locating a pre-66 bonnet and engine lid me and the soapbox would be most gratefull, not too worried about rust and small dents...
Need to sort buying the front end extension and lights... Should be well on our way. When is the next meet? I dont have an aircooled ride insured at the moment so you will have to excuse the 205!

well, day one spent on the bug... it is a rust bucket/ nature reserve! I have had to evict mosquitoes, centipedes, woolice and earwigs... on the plus I did manage to remove the back wings, start to take off the rear valance and dropped the engine to see what the problem was with the clutch... It turns out it does have a clutch but the thrust bearing gave up the ghost and ripped one of the arms off the clutch release arm... so I will have to pilage my spare gearbox and get that instaled with a new thrust bearing...
After a little play I found the electrics to all be in working order, lights, washer, wipers, ignition, dynamo... At least this thing has something going for it!
