| As to the brake servo takeoff, I just copied the original set up from when I had solexs and then the icts on there. It has a balance pipe between the carbs which then goes into one servo line to the front. I just wondered if I should trim the plastic elbows down I case they are affecting the flow inside the manifold? | |

| I think so / hope so!!! I cant see where else it has come from.. I will blank off the chokes also this week and put new manifold to head gaskets in as the tinware has to come off.
I'm open to any other suggestions with where the fuel my be coming from... But looking at the soaked gaskets I guess it's them...

| May order up some gasket sheets then. Does it have to be a certain type of material and thickness? | |

| Just had a look. The gaskets on their are not an exact fit to the manifold: overlap the inner edge and aren't flush to the outer edge. So maybe making a set to match exactly the carbs/manifolds would be better.....and may stop the fuel leaking | |

| Had a couple of hours on the bus today... mainly cleaning the gasket residue off the base of the carbs and then taking fan shroud out. big thanks to Wizbiz for helping to split the shroud apart... ready for a degrease this week and re-spray next weekend... Fan taken out: Alternator out: Alternator cover plate to be resprayed: The fan and dismantled parts so far: Naked block with fan shroud removed... got lots of room in there now!! Red paint is flaking of the block though.. annoying as no time to repaint that before VolksWorld show, so may just degrease and remove paint then spray block with some clear engine lacquer... Disassembled bits on the drive: no pic of split fan shroud, will update tomoz.. inside was covered in oil/grime etc... which then gets deposited all over the heads... nice. now only got to take off manifolds and top tin to repaint. Then just do the reverse and re-assemble it all!! All just a result of a slight fuel leak on the carbs!! and decide on fan shroud colour! (ring any bells Steph .... ) | |

| Today is the day!! Sun is out. All Parts arrived from machine 7 (next day delivery and even they sent out a missing CSP choke blanking plate which arrived today!) Degreaser and towel at the ready (cheers Scoops) and rattle paints all lined up. Just got to strip the remaining tin wear off, remove manifolds, degrease, rub back and prep for paint, spray and then refit it all back up. Job done then! More Pics to follow later! | |

that tin you are missing on the RH head is the bit i found left over when i put mine back together. its quite an important bit as it channels the air from the fan around the head. i will keep an eye out for some if you want? the spare bits i have are the gearbox end that the heater risers fit on to

| Been busy this afternoon! All tin prepped and lacquered (4 coats) Installed main cylinder tin first after removing at much as possible of the flaking engine paint, and then lacquered with oil and heat resistant Gunk Engine Lacquer. Re-cleaned carbs and manifolds and installed new gaskets. Removed choke system and replaced with new CSP choke blanking plates. installed manifolds and carbs: then built up fan shroud (as had split in half to paint) cleaning all rubber boots for the dipstick and alternator. The installed onto engine block. reinstalled alternator (which was degreased and polished ), new fanbelt and ancillaries. started at 12:30pm and all back in and running at 7pm! Not bad, bearing in mind having to wait for the lacquer to cure. Also, cleaned and painted: alternator pulley, dipstick and wiper arms, and cleaned the garage!... Started 1st time and Just got the front tin to install, change the fuel filter, fix the reverse like switch in the week then time to road test. Also, wipe down the fresh tin wear in a week or so. | |

| So it needs.... new dust covers x4 for the track rod ends (which I knew about) but.. also: new front shocks!.. the price of going low and hard! Wouldn't be so bad if they were cheap ones.. but GAZ gas adjustable coilovers...so approx £240 pair.. and then springs on top £80... Seals have gone on both, so leaking damper oil.. Took them off tonight to measure up for replacement, or get them re-built up.. not a lot of room left on the lip of the arch without them on.. so if standard oil shocks on... but lots of room inside.... | |
