| not for certain, the gaskets had seen better days and the diaphragm at the bottom of the second pic is all frayed around the outside. More than that though the screw that holds the cover only had 3 or the 4 screws! However, the underside of the carb body by this bolt.... was cleaner than the rest so perhaps this bolt is the culprit... does anyone know the purpose of this bolt? Does it have a gasket? | |

| pretty sure that bolt should have a crush washer or copper washer on chap else fuel will leak from it, also if its been over tightened it will leak | |

I'll take it out tomorrow and have a look, any way of testing it before I refit it? - baja 69 wrote:

Surely the float will find it's own level?

I wouldn't re-use a crush washer, for the cost of a new one I'd replace them!

I wouldn't re-use a crush washer, for the cost of a new one I'd replace them! thats why i put 'if' ...he's on a tight deadline ,and may not have one in the re-build kit

| Ok so one carb stripped and rebuilt and another out and stripped but ran out of carb cleaner and light, only hope somewhere is open tomorrow that has some. Been on a forty mile roundtrip today to get the correct screw to hold the diaphragm plate in place. Proper old school machine/mechanics workshop...with a rolling road top find I reckon, will be visiting there again. | |

| Carbs rebuilt, refitted and the engine has fired up with no signs of a petrol leak! Time for a quick coffee then some tuning and all should be sweet | |
