| Seeing as the sun was out I thought i'd get on with a few bits...I worked out why I have a leak... These pictures are taken under the dash with the airbox removed...so the oblong space that has rotted is under the vents at the top of the bonnet...not good and difficult to get to to repair Also found that a winter in my drive has had some effect inside the fron end not such a pain to get and not as critical but scary all the same... where I left it when I came in for a cuppa so...I thought i'd find a loose hose causing the leak, right it and fit the carpet...it would seem not | |

| Si thats a very common area to rot on a type 3 there are a few good very helpful how to repair this area on the Type 3 & 4 forum. I believe most tackle it from the front luggage area and cut the box completely but carefully off to gain access to what you see under your dash. I have got the same issue on my 411 but with mine im led to believe that you need to remove all the front running gear, then drop the fuel tank out from under the car to access the air box, from what Jane at Volksfarmers has said its a fucking absolute nightmare job to do! Good Luck with yours dude | |

Good Luck with yours dude your's sounds like a real pain in the ass dude!!! Not fancying cutting part of the car away to get to another part of the car tbh...I will explore all other avenues before doing this. Cheers for pointing it out to me though mart

| If i pour water over the car now it's definately going to leak, more like pour straight through the vents at the foot of the windscreen an into the car.
Don't think it's the windscreen, it has rotted through poor design. the water is supposed to drain through the airbox but the drainage holes get blocked and the water sits there and over the years it rots it out.
Fix the rot, rebuild the airbox, service the ambulance fan.
Possibly fit some stainless gauze under the vents to prevent the same thing happening again.

Away for a few days now so will hopefully have time over the weekend to get the hose on it.

| Have you checked the bottom edges of the windscreen aperture? My Notch had gone there and allowed water in when it rained. | |

Si. Just work your way around the car with a watering can till you find the leak. May also be the window rubbers perishing..

| If it's not raining at the weekend that's the plan Rich, get the hose out and trickle it over one place at a time | |

Next dry day this is the plan. For the time being I've bought a tailor made cover to keep the water out of it until its sorted. Not ideal but then preferable IMO to having a paddling pool in the footwell
