| O and theres a story behind my van lol, took it for mot and the chassis number on the vin plate was totally diffrent to the one on the log book tottaly crapping my self i decide to rip the vin plate of and make my own, dodgy as fook annyway after all this finaly find the stamped chassis number on the outrigger, thanks to brickwerxs and that matched the logbook, weird or what so why there was dodgy chassis plate on the van i havnt a clue. Warning always check the logbook matches the chassis number | |

| If they put the wrong chassis number in the computer (you said the plate didn't match the log book so I'm guessing this is the number the MOT guy used?) it's still ok to test the van but it will flag up as a mismatch at the DVLA. DVLA will send you a letter telling you the incorrect number has been used and they will need to inspect it. Happens all the time and has been a total nightmare since the computerised MOT was introduced. They should make an appointment to come and see the van so no hassel to you and the Inspector will come down from the Bristol office and he's a nice bloke so make him a cuppa | |

| No he used the chassis number stamped in the chassis (front outrigger) and bined the one on the plate so all is cool, im just trying to find away of getting a new vin plate, even though ive been told if its stamped on the chassis i dont need a vin plate. You are prob the best to ask about a new vin plate | |

| Thats all cool then. Just stick with the stamped in chassis number as this is the main one everyone (police/MOT/DVLA/VOSA) wants to seeand works with.
The daft VIN plates are so often changed about that they are not used to verify a car identity.

All sorts of reasons mate. Could be the engine donors tag, could be a body number, could be a build number, which is why MOT should always be done off stamped in chassis number only. Old MG's and Land Rovers are the worst as they often have 3 different sets of numbers and if the MOT man is lazy he'll just use the number off the stamped plate rather than the stamped chassis number. Good to know its all sorted now thow
