1977 1200 BEETLE - STIG2 - THE RUST STRIKES BACK!!!

This is my new purchase, found on Vzi, from a bloke called Richard who lives somewhere the wrong side of Norwich...He had heard of the DBS!

I decided with my record of car detonations there was no option but to ease myself back into the world of aircooled vdubs gently, so it was driven 250 miles back to Burnham, including a nice traffic jam on the m25 for a good hour at crawling pace... (At this point I must thank my support vehicle driver and understanding missus - Cheers Kim!)

No problems at all on the drive home apart from the drivers window going from "working a bit" to "not really working", and the thing refusing to idle without occasional jabbing of the throttle, a lot better than I expected and a smooth ride

Spec... 1977, registered in 78, 1200cc, Bit of filler, bit of welding, bit more needed!!! Pretty standard apart from the random body panels, nice stock height too and some elephants foot rear lights for the haters!!!

EDIT - Mileage when purchased 107,200 miles...

Plan... Drive it, bit of a tart up, maybe some more major mods as and when funds allow... But this is my DAILY DRIVE so it'll be function over form.

So here it is - PICS! These were the ones taken by the previous owner to sell it, I will put some more up once it has been given the deep clean treatment.

Cheers guys, it was good to be back behind the wheel of a bug again, its been about 4 years since I drove one any real distance, really put a smile on my face

Matt Black vented decklid removed and replaced with white non vented decklid, I may keep the vented one and spray it properly though, but for now it looks a bit neater. The numberplate light housing is kinda hand painted too, so that could be tidied at the same time I guess. Those springs are a pain in the arse!

Carpets removed & washed, mats cleaned, seat covers cleaned, but will be replaced in time.

Was pleasantly surprised to find very clean pans underneath, I briefly checked around when I viewed it, but for what I paid I expected a bit of plating to be on the cards, but no need, bonus!

Ordered a load of service bits, think im gonna need a new bonnet cable/catch, as its a bit intermittent wether it wants to work or not.

It will do when its done, its a bit of a mongrel at the moment, but I have a feeling it will scrub up rather well in the coming months

As for the daylight - I was waiting for this - Im surprised it took so long! When funds allow there will be a subtle drop, but not too much as I live off Burnham High St, which is vicious speedbump central, and the rims I have in mind will need the room

if i can get the chop down there (which i have), i'm sure you can.... no excuses!!!
