| Staying stock dude. To the point where I might take all the windows out as it has got the wrong seals in there. The previous owner fitted 1200 seals. | |

| Rear bumper, headlamp rims, bonnet roundel and washer bottle clips turned up today. Got to wait until 25/3 for the front bumper though....should be getting all of the interior out and cleaned as well as these bits fitted this weekend. Hope to also get it properly cleaned under the bonnet first, and then work my way backwards. | |

| Tried to have a little play on Saturday but no sooner did I get out there it started to frigging rain! Put the gazebo up (on my own) but I may as well have taken the bloody canvas off it let the rain through so much. I did however find a few things out. Heritage VW bonnet logos are crap, and mine will be going straight back tomorrow. Radio glovebox liners are more suited to lining the bin, luckily I didn't pay for this crap!! Bloody hell it isn't even remotely the same shape as the glovebox hole. I need to buy a full set of trim clips..... I need to look at a 70's bug to suss out how the small metal disc fits on the front panel under the bonnet, just behind the bumper. I did however get an Abarth style muffler box from Nomates (cheers dude) that I might get chromed and paint the exhaust tips black, is metal-flake heat resistant??? This is likely to be the ONLY departure from stock. Basically all I actually managed was to clip into place the side trim on the front O/S qtr. Anyone know how many trim clips are meant to be in each door?? | |

| Want a nice set of wide stock chrome wheels? look nice if they were stripped and painted!!!!!!!. the metal disc under the bonnet should have a stud on the back of it, and it sandwiches with another plate behind to hold it in place. | |

| That's what I though Al, it looks as if it will almost pull through as it comes bare, but by the time it is painted. Job done. As for the wheels I am leaving stock rims on there fella. Cheers anyway. | |

| As I have put in the VolksWold Show thread I got most of the bits I think I need to get the 71 done today.
Headlamps. Side window rubbers. Full set of window seal trim. Oil change kit. Rocker cover gaskets and spring clips. Heater Hose
Add this to the stuff that I had bought in the last week or so,
Headlamp rims Bumpers Bonnet Logo Washer Bottle clips Wiper Arms
I think I am about to dive in!! The engine need to come out to give it a quick freshen up and the rear brakes need adjusting as I think they are binding. Then get the trim and bumpers on, and pop the windows out to replace the incorrect seals and we are there. I am going to see if I get enough time to get the work done and an MOT for CTTP but I think that is pushing it at the speed I work!!!!! | |

| Not sure, I have got to take a wing off to take in to a body shop to get a scratch done and to find the colour so I can rattle can the heater channels too. I'll let you know. | |

| Right then. Believe it or not I have done something to the 71!! It has been on the garage under a cover since I had my massive garage clear out. Yesterday at 5pm I decided to whip the back N/S wheel off and get it on a stand. I had to use a breaker bar just to get the bloody bolts undone. Anyway, I only had 10 minutes spare this evening as I had the kids all day so I decided to see if my heat gun was up to the job of getting the underseal off. It was. Now it isn't great under there yet, I need to get a big old bag of rags and plenty of meths to finish them off properly. Seeing how it started to come has given me a bit of impspiration, just don't expect a Nomates pace from me!!! | |

| I had a couple more hours this afternoon so thought I would try and get a bit more done. For a start I carried on getting the bloody underseal off. This got me to here. A bit of white spirit and a big roll of rag got me to here. I thought that the underseal looked a bit thick at the front of the arch, this is why. A patch has been welded in and not that well IMHO. I cleaned it up a little. Took some snaps from the inside to try and decide what to do. I don't know what to do about this. Should I buy a repair panel, and cut this repair out so it can be done properly? I have thought too that I need to get the spring plate off, but haven't slackened off the hub-nut yet. Plus, I don't have any brake pipe clamps yet. Anyway, I have made a start, and whilst it won't be at the same sort of speed that most of you can manage I intend to give it a couple of hours here and there when I can. | |

| Just looked at the pics for the first time properly and the pics from the inside don't show what I want to. I am not sure if the patch has had the rusty metal underneath cut out properly or not so I think the only thing to do is cut it out and start again. | |

| I take it your keeping it then dude .....I would give it a real good clean up before you make any sort of decision ....as this could be a good repair ...and its an awkward repair to do well ....with the body off it would be a lot easier to access ...as its where about three different panels meet ....give it a really good clean up inside and out and then post up some more piccies ....good work tho' keep chipping away at it | |

| I think you are right. I am already toying with getting the body off so I can get the pan powdercoated. I agree that I should go through it and assess the total amount of work required. I will see if I can get the rear suspension off this week or next weekend to let me finished cleaning it all up and then move on to the front end. | |
