So after fitting Mrs Tango's new clutch in her 1.9tdi newbie, Wizpop then managed to destroy the rest of his clutch in the following week... so we've done one, how hard can it be to replace one on a 1.8T?
Although, we had suspicions that his maybe also the DMF as it was slipping a lot more and he has a few more ponies to play with and a heavier right foot..along with a side stepping left!
So we fitted a new Clutch kit installed last Sunday... ECS tuning VR6 lightened solid flywheel conversion stage 1 Sachs job off Awesome Gti... easy he reckoned ...
removal of Battery, tray, air filter/MAF, gear controls, clutch slave, power steering reservoir, moved A/C lines out of the way...
removed some road surface from his dogbone engine mount
nice line up of new and old..
old clutch was a bit worn compared to the new one..
DMF had to go as damaged and worn out..
new lightened solid flywheel ready to go in.
all cleaned up and ready:
new flywheel installed..
gearbox had to be checked and clearances sorted to accept new flywheel/clutch/pressure plate
new stage 1 sachs clutch installed:
then it was a long process of getting the gearbox back in and the driveshaft flanges kept getting in the way of the subframe and trying to clear the larger flywheel...
all done and refitted all ancillaries.. he just needs a new n/s engine mount now ..
yeah, only started at 9am and finished by 8pm.... noticed the 1.8T block is a bit wider, he also has over 106K on his compared to the 33k on the 09 plate tdi.. .. .
