So is the tea strainer that bad at doing its job then They're not brilliant. A little extra cooling from the oil lines and the improved filtration of a Fram is all going to help with the longevity of the engine. - Road Rage wrote:

| Are you using the Orange HP1 fram filter ? I use that on my engine and it increases the oil quantity by a decent amount ! with the lines and the filter I think it was another litre or so ? When you fit the filter for the final fit make sure you fill it up with fresh oil prior to install.

| I might be being dense - all the kits have a take off pipe from the oil pump housing, where does the other pipe go?
(Since my engine is in bits I have the chance to sort one for the van)

| The case is tapped in the oil gallery's for the return Looking at the oil gallery follow the gallery to the left ! Scoops has your case been tapped for full flow ? Also you need to put a bung inside the before the oil pump goes in as you want all the oil to go out the pump cover plate through the filter then back into the case | |

| I'm going to run a CSP conversion that replaces the oil pressure relief valve for the return and the oil comes out from the pump, no need for tapping and drilling. | |

| Had a little bit of time this afternoon so I decided I needed to get a bit done on the engine. I whipped out the 5 exhaust studs that were in the heads and fitted all new 8 new ones, with a smear of good old copper slip on each stud. This reminds me, I need to source the slim line exhaust nuts that have the allen key pattern in the end. Next was to start dry fitting up the tinware to make sure it all goes together ok prior to getting it coated. I know it all looks a bit manky but I'm going to clean the case etc when the tinware is being done. Popped the oil cooler in place and nipped up one nut to hold it in place. Then put the fan housing in place. Doing this made me realise one side requires the bottom front edge to be straightened out. I started looking at the areas that require a mild 'fettling' to get it to all fit together properly. This is where we are at the moment I've been offered a full set of tinware that's already been powder coated but I'm waiting to find out if it's a brand new set up that's been done, if it's og or if it's had it's fettling and fits straight on. | |

| Had a bit more a furkle with the tinware this afternoon. The tinware on the side of 3 & 4 is all sorted now. Just need to sort out blanking the holes in the rear tinware where the heat risers would have been and then get the other side done. Didn't take any pics today, but will do if I get on it on Sunday afternoon. | |

| The tinware is more or less there I think, ready for stripping back down and then going for powder coating. Engine needs a clean then, then the rockers to fit, the carbs to rebuild and fit and then get the ancillaries back on there. | |

| Went at the tinware with the dremel again this morning until I was happier with the fit. Then stripped it all back off the engine and now have it boxed up and ready to drop over to Nailsea next week for powder coating. Going to wander over to Oldmixon Crescent next week and get a 45 degree one of these. If I use this it will hang below the level of the support bar. I can crack on next with getting the block cleaned up.... | |

| Steps Dad always wheels out a story about how his colleague used to clean under the bonnet more than the rest of the car because you always break down in your best clothes.
I only do it so I can see where this weeks leak comes from!
