i have spoken to a few people about the seal at the back edge, they have removed channel and dont fit a seal, and have had no problems, with water leaks due to the u channel below.

Ok thanks dude ....may just run without then ...do they still have the side seals?

they run a mexican bonnet seal which clips on bonnet edge.

You have loads of spare bonnets to fibber!!

There is no metal seal on my beetle, the rubber part is just stuck on dude.
I never found it wet under the bonnet (that was just inside the car!!!

didn't really want to go mexican .....I'll see if I can make a new seal lip

isnt it better to cut them off somthing else??

This one has got good size seal lips:

you can buy lengths of seal channel. see below item 5.
just spot weld on and use a good weld through primer first.

cheers dude ...ordered some channel seal ...but its on back order ...so thought I'd have a go at somthing differant ....

Ironic really as the only non-rusty part of the bug needed to be cut out

sunroof time , firstly I centred the inner support and used it as a template

Then I marked up the hole and the bolt holes


out with the grinder

I Don't know if this is the easiest way to install it as I had no instructions ...but I fitted three sides ...then the vinyl roof ....then the fourth (last) side


Also used some G clamps to hold the inner support in place whilst I bolted in the upper sections


when I was happy with the fit I bolted it in

I have alway's loved the look of a ragtop beetle ....very IMO

It needs a real good clean ....does anyone have any tips to clean vinyl ?

did you seal it down ???

Looks really cool dude.

To clean it up, use Jiff and a washing up sponge. It'll bring it up like new.

They have just done a rag top 'How To' in Ultra VW.......

What issue / page ?

Rag Tops are the way forward!!

The last couple of months........ if you haven't got them I could see if I can find them and scan them in.
I have also got some cabriolet roof cleaner here you can have if it is any good to you for scrubbing the ragtop up.

I will have them..somewhere it needs a real good clean with jiff me thinks

Come and get them one evening, I'll even chuck in a Stella!!
