Here's my little helper.dont ask me why but the daughter decided to call her treakle Rolling Eyes
[iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2152mg]
First job was to decide where to start.i chose the rear end lol!
cut out a bit of rot.
[/iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2112mg]
Then have a go at fabricating some new metal.
[imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2116g]
[/iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2115mg]
[imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2117g]
Then tidy it all up a bit.
[/iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2119mg]
Had to make a piece for the gutter as there wasnt much left.
[iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2121mg]
Not fantastic.but it should do.

Otherside Shocked
[imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2134g]
The welds where so rusty it pinged of when i hit it with a hammer.
So first cut out the grot.
[/imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2160g]
Mark up some new shiney metal.
[imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2170g]
Weld it in as best i can.
[/HUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2171img]
[imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2185g]
Had to do some metal bending.to make about a foot long bit for the gutter.including the slight angled bit.
[/iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2181mg]
[iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2182mg]
All stuck in...
[/iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2187mg]
And cleaned up a bit.

Despoted the funny panel(dont know what its called)near the rear wheel.
[imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2046g]
As it had loads of scank all over it.
[/imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2033g]
And lots of old repairs.over the years.and i want it to look a bit better if i can.
First had to make the lip that runs underneath the panel
[iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2045mg]
[/iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2043mg]
This is the panel after i cut and welded all the rot out.
[imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2044g]
Still eeds a little straightening to finish it right.
Decided not to patch this up.but start with fresh metal.
[/iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2076mg]
Found a wee bit more.
[imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2075g]
Had a go with my baby vice at fabing up a piece to fit.
[/imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2077g]
[iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2080mg]
[/imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2079g]
And stuck it in.

Refitted this panel after making up the inner floor/boot bit.
[iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2114mg]
Just needs cleaning up a bit.
[/iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2190mg]
This is the inner bit.not too bad now.
Then the usual bits.
[iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2028mg]
now looks a bit better.
Not bad for G S F. and loads of fettling.
[/iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2034mg]
Made up the rear cross member sections as best i could.
had nothing here to coppy from so a fair bit of guess work and regigging was needed.hence a couple of pics will see patches here and there over the resto.to try to work out the shape of the bits that are rotted .
[iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2024mg]
Had to cut of the lip of the knackered old rear valence.soto sqeeze in the bumper mount i got of flee bay.
before.
[/iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2139mg]
after
[imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2141g]
And once both the rear mounts where in place it got a bit tricky for me.
coz i have the rear valance of the blue beetle.but it needed a bit of work.
plus the whole lip thats welds to the engine lid bit was f@@cked so that had to come off the knackered valance but that lip was sound.confussed...so was i...
First despot weld all the bits.and clean up.
[/iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2159mg]
they where the originals.
Make up some new metal.
[iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2161mg]
[/imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2162g]
Better valance welded to old lip.
[imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2155g]
[/imHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2157g]
Hopefully it will fit........
[iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2154mg]
[/iHUGO THE 72 - Page 2 DSCN2146mg]
not too bad..
