I've put some stripes around his wheels to define where the wheel ends and the tyre starts lol. Also painted the hubcaps silver as they were rusting badly:

I got bored last week so decided to paint Herb's wheels. I looked in our paint cupboard and found a can of Robbie Rocket Red and VW Candy White....

I think they quite suit him! I want to save up and get them done professionally and then powdercoated in clear so that they're easy to clean!

Dont let nationwide touch him if they are being sent by your insurers, they will surely mess him up.

A company called 'Auto Restore' is coming to look at him - are they any good? They want to fix him on my drive, but I can't see that happening tbh as I think he needs a whole new bumper at a minimum, plus paint, broken parts (no plate lights etc)..... plus you have to take the rear wings etc off to remove a Beetle's rear bumper, so it's not a quick bolt off, bolt on job.

Righty.... so the man came to look at him and wanted to take the bumper off.... which was a fun job as he'd never worked on a Beetle before and didn't know that you have to undo half the wing bolts etc to get the bumper off. Anyway - I helped him do it and we got the bumper off enough to see behind it to see if there was any damage - thankfully it all seems fine:
Herbie - Page 2 DSCI0031fg

Herbie - Page 2 DSCI0036fg

Herbie - Page 2 DSCI0038fg

And back together again:
Herbie - Page 2 DSCI0039fg

So now I have to wait for someone else to come out on the 22nd April and fit a new bumper. I'm guessing I'll have to be home for that too cos the other person is likely to not have a clue! On the plus side, we found the other number plate light and refitted it.

don't talk about auto restore, they came and repaired my wife's toyota corolla t-sport, they said they would cover the drive up so no dust got anywhere.

Anyway, i got back from work, there was filler dust engrained in our block paved driveway thay had been laid 3 weeks before, the repair to the car was rubbish and the colour match was crap.

the guy phoned me up later and asked if i was please, i let my feelings known very quickly down the phone and suggested he gets his area manager to my house asap.

they had been pre warned as well that i was the engineer for aviva and this job must be right.

I had the car taken to a good bodyshop who repaired it very well in the end.

I also had them pay to have the driveway pulled up and and a new one re-laid, at £3500-00.

Who are you insured with?

I would suggest that you go back to your insurers, advise them that you do not want this company to repair your car, and go to a good bodyshop and get an estimate.
Also state that you want the rear wings blended for colour match.

Hmm.... that doesn't sound good... I might give MSL a call and talk to them as the blokes don't seem to know much about Beetles at all, and my driveway isn't really the best place for it to be painted - I asked if they bought the bumper pre painted, but they said no, they do it all on the drive under a cover.... which I wasn't so keen on tbh.

I'm insured with Waveneys but the claims go through MSL. Time for a ring methinks.

Ok, rang MSL and cancelled the other guys. Now I have to take the car to Yeovil (South Street Body Repairs - do you know them?) to get a quote from them, and then MSL will arrange a courtesy car etc etc.

I wish insurance was simple..... I'm losing so many hours running about doing all this myself, and the accident wasn't even my fault! Grr!

You have a choice to have the car repaired at any garage you like, I don't know much about south street body repairs.

Local to you the Vw/audi approved bodyshops as

kynaston , cook way , taunton. or
loaders of yeovil, hounstone business park.
