We're new and introducing our 8 Dubs! (lots of pics)

Hi there, I know some of you on here, but for those I dont - hi! I'm Lucy, and together with my bf Steve we have 6 aircooled Dubs and 2 water pumpers which are our dailys.

These are our 2 new ones.... you may not like new VWs but we love them, and besides they're not exactly run of the mill ones so they're a little different which makes them accepted more... yes?

Robbie: Robbie is a 1998 New Beetle imported from Houston in Texas. I bought him in 2005 when he was pretty standard and looked like this:




Fast forward to last weekend and he looked like this:




But when he doesn't have his winter wheels on he looks like this:





Next up is the baby of the family - Widget. Widget is a 2006 174 T5. He's got a 2.5l TDi 172bhp 6 speed engine - which is scarily fast!!!! He looked like this when we picked him up:




A couple spoilers, chrome indicator bulbs, side bars etc later and he now looks like this:




But if I had my way, he'd look something like this!

Now on to our 2 old Bugs.

First is Bertie. Bert was my first Bug - and first car. I bought him at VW Action 2001 and thought he was the best thing since sliced bread! He was pretty much stock bar an adustable beam, which I'm pretty sure wasn't lowered very much at all!


Anyway, 18 months later the MOT found lots of expanding foam in the channels


So he's been sat at the back of my garage for 2yrs waiting for me to get round to fixing him! but he ha been a particually useful shed in the meantime...




Then there's Bella. I imported Bella from Australia myself in 2004. She was $400 AD which is £160 - bargainous! She's rust free, but I had to weld in some new rear bumper mount sections to get rid of some light accident damage she'd had.

When I got her she looked like she was going off roading, and had a few incorrect parts fitted, but this has now all been rectified!




Tomarse (is he on here?? He's on Volkszone if not) built her a custom made 3.5in narrowed adjustable beam and she looked much better:

Then to the 2 Bays...

This is Oscar. He's a (late) 1972 Devon Bay. We bought him in 2003 and he's never let us down and we've had sooooo much fun with him. But when we bought him we knew his bodywork would need attention someday, and that day has come. He pretty much looks like this:


But now needs a fair bit of welding, so he's been added to our 'to do' list. Steve gave the front step a wiggle a few months ago and this happened:

Our other Bay is Skippy: Skippy came from Australia with Ted (see Splits) and Bella. He's rock solid, super straight etc, but we just never use him, so he's up for sale:

Now onto the Splits!

This is Ted: Ted is a 61 Split and was again from Australia. We bought him off the same bloke as Skippy. who was starting his music career (I'm using the phrase 'career' lightly) at 71. We have an album he did called 'Chookshed Ted' and his 'hit' goes on about putting chicken poop on his head to grow hair... he's like an Australian Wurzel! Anyway, he had the bus for 7-12yrs (depending on which day you talked to him on), and for most of that time, it had sat under a car port type thing waiting for him to get round to restoring it. There is very little in the way of rust.


And finally onto Joey!!!! We bought Joey in 2004 from Martin at Bristol Cherished cars in Bristol. He then looked like this:

And is currently undergoing IRS:


Should be all done this weekend, plus his new black/polished EMPI 5s will be on.

Well his new alloys have arrived, the gear linkage bits have arrived and the new brake pipe kit has arrived... so hopefully IRS will be done this weekend and we'll have started on the new loom!

Really gonna try to get him to the cruise on the 16th!

Erm, we don't lol. We've been working on Joey for the last.... God knows how long! We've said he'll definatly be finished for the last 3 or 4 Vanfests but never been finished Bella's been in progress for ages... we don't get much time to do stuff to her cos we work on Joey.... the others don't have any work done to them cos they're waiting projects and Robbie is 5k past his last services as we haven't had the time to fit a new sump, not the money to buy it cos we keep buying stuff for the others lol

Cheers for the welcomes! No idea if we're coming on Friday or not yet - I think it depends on how well we've done in the day with our IRS conversion on Joey - we need to do loads to him this weekend if we want him on the road for the 16th!
