PostSubject: 73' bay wiring......HELP...MORE HELP REQUIRED!!!   Wed Nov 04, 2009 12:05 pm

am havin a hell of a job with the bay gettin it to start...........basically the wirings been cut about to take a period motometer ammeter (anyone wanna buy that), some stereo at some point, a temp gauge for the engine & split charge wiring.

anyone on here got a wiring diagram for the starter/ignition/key circuits??

im gutting the added looms n such as i go but need a standard reference point to reconnect all the original wiring.............starter solenoid clicks at the mo with a fully charged battery but wont turn & is obviously dead short somewhere cos its draining fully charged battery in no time.

Good news is that all lights (even indicators!!) seem to work! lol!

check the regulator has been wired in correctly. had this with mine, one wrong wire connected created a drain on the batt and killed them in under a day!

vintage bus site is great!

still havin grief with this vans bl**dy wiring......trouble is the original wirings been cut about/extended & added to with non std coloured wiring!......im only glad im not colourblind......only way it could be worse! lol

im down to one fusebox & 3 or 4 relays now (as opposed to 3 fuseboxes & several stereo type power splitters!!)........could someone with a 72'on bay do me a favour?:

could you take a pic if of your fusebox & list the in & out colours of the wiring to each fuse position......please

aim of the game is to put it back to as near stock vw wiring as possible rather than undo copious bodges

apparently its a common mod to aid startin......takes the switched current direct from battery to starter without it runnin to the front of the car n back apparently

am doing better with the wirin...it now runs which is a relief Wink

Very common especially on 6 volters, I have got a switch mounted under the rear seat so the current doesn't have to go all the way up front and back again...
