Your gonna need some wide rims for the tyres mate, they are 255 60R 15s that means at least a 9" rim, are the wings wide enough Question Question

Olly you tart pull your finger out and get welding that freebie geek
(i'll have you know ive been busy becoming a home owner and diy disaster zone!!!)

From memory, those wings probably arent wide enough, dont want to P*$$ on your chips though, it'd look good if they did fit!!!

If you had some 6in wide rims of the correct offset and some 215/65/15 that would in my opinion get the effect you desire - looks fat, fills the arches, taller for better cruising speed/consumption - with minimal outlay/fuss ie reshaping those wings to fit properly. Very Happy

All about the streeeeeeetch mate. My old golf was running 8's on the front and 8.5's on the rear with 195 wide rubber stretched on. Gives you loads more arch clearance and also looks sweeeet. Very Happy

Still not sure they are legal.......plus I would have to be sure they were properly welded all round. They are the contact with the road for you.....

There is nothing in writing that specifically says banded wheels are illegal its more a case of wether you / the police are happy they are fit for the purpose. This has been covered thoroughly on the retro rides forum.

I personally would be more worried about driving on streched tyres than banded steels but thats another thread and depends on the severity of the strech, so i wont generalise Wink Very Happy

right, quick update.
didn't get the banded steels off evilbay, got sniped at the last second...
But i did manage to get some 5.5 steelies from a 356....

They'll be shot blasted with the 4.5's and sprayed at the same time... got a nice set of chrome domes off Phil that look sweet...

Right then, what rubber is going to look proper on a 5.5 rim...

answers on a postcard

Seeing as everyone has buggered off to Vanfest for the weekend, i'm going to strip the chop down whilst there's no-one around to stop me....Mu-ha-ha-ha!!
Will post up some pics over the weekend, but hoping to get all wings etc off, windows out & engine out....
If anyone fancies popping over to the unit on sunday avo & pointing & laughing, you'll be more than welcome!

Very Happy
