Meet K.A.T. MK2 Golf VR6T

Jamo came over today and helped bleed the brakes, then i fitted wheels back on and got it on the deck. Still need to re adjust the ride height, camber, and tracking though.

Just about to order the bits i need to fix engine up.

I love this Golf Buddy. That is a proper sleeper........that's going to scare the shite out of some M3 driver!!!

Ordered new Auxillery water pump, alternator, and looked at buying a new tensioner pulley, but as they are made of plastic i thought i'd call on the old mans lathe skills and he knocked me a steel one up instead!

This little lot should arrive this week sometime, then i need an exhaust backbox, and she will be driveable.

Yesterday had a massssive hangover but dragged myself out of bed as my parts had arrived in the post. So i fitted the new tensioner, pulley, and belt, and also the aux water pump. Also fitted my Kenlow fan onto the Corrado VR6 radiator, made up a wiring loom for it and fitted the lot onto the car and filled with water.
Started engine, left it running until it got hot and i was happy the fan turned on / off by itself. Engine ran sweet as a nut except it had an intermitent misfire which needs some attention.

Also got myself an exhaust backbox, its a bit chavvy but i was despirate for one and this one came up cheap and local so it will do for now till i find a more subtle one at a later date.

Todays jobs once i get out of this bed will be, fit backbox, fit clutch pedal back on as i wasnt happy about where it sat in the car, bleed the clutch system and ma ybe drive the car up the road and back?!

Ha thats just asking for trouble if i film it on its 1st test drive! Guaranteed something will break or go wrong!

Ive just come in for some lunch, fitted the clutch pedal earlier, and spent the last few hours trying to bleed the system but its being a pain in the arse for some reason Gonna have a cup of tea and some lunch and calm down for a bit. haha hopefully by the time i go back out the clutch might have started to bleed itself a bit as once the fluid is through the air should in theory rise to the top. We'll see.!

Well... it drives!

I also made a new steel bracket to house the mk3 Fusebox, i wrapped all the looms up in the fusebox area, and plugged everything in neatly as its a bit tight for space under there. Fixed the box in place, fitted the VR6 speedo, and indicator / wiper stalks, refitted dash and centre console, then cleaned and fitted front section of carpet and the seats. Stood back and admired and took loads of photos which i will post up soon.

All thats left to do is a few more odds and ends ready for the MOT, fit the backbox, re-bleed clutch and brakes as still not 100%.

Im not going to Tax it till 1st March so after that expect to see her at a few meets soon.

Fitted all new Vaccum pipes and valves, fitted new exhaust backbox, but need 2 new rubber mounts before it will line up correctly. Also added a new sticker to the windscreen, and fitted the new valve cap covers that a friend made for me using some Hooter Las Vagus dice.


ALso repaired my crank position sensor by wrapping the inner screening in house hold tin foil, then used insulation tape ontop.
Does the job, and saves me a bloody fortune buying a new one!

Had a few problems with emissions for MOT, the max CO2 level it should be is 3.50. ...KAT was 4.09 so she failed MOT

But after plugging the old laptop into her brain we found a fault with the Carbon canister. (there isnt one!!!) but the plug is there, so i made a small loom incorporating a relay so that this fooled the ECU to thinking the canister was there. 2nd trip to the MOT saw a CO2 of 0.99

So i Taxed and insured her, and all seems well, me and Jamo went for a play tonight and she seemed to pull strong, so im quite happy for the moment. Im still not 100% confident in a few things and so im gonna put her on the ramp 2mrw night and double check every nut and bolt underneath just for piece of mind really before i start going too mad with her.

Today i put the car on the ramp and had a good look underneath, re-tightened all bolts, etc just to be on the safe side. Lucky i did as i found 1 drivesahft bolt was slightly loose so i tightened that, also found that the exhaust manifold is blowing and the downpipe rubs on the steering rack sometimes. Nothing major except to remove the manifold the engine needs to come out again It can stay blowing for a bit i think!

Also greased all the coilover threads to stop them from seizing, and i lowered the front down a couple more inches so it now has a better stance. Need to fit some 10mm spacers to the rear just to beef the back appearance up as i think the wheels look a bit skiiny from behind

I have been taking it easy in the old girl for the last few days but today i thought it was only fair to open her up. And when an R32 came along side me i gave a bootful and was more than happy when he responded.

Well ive wondered for a while how KAT would hold up against VW's R32 golf, and now i know........

And yeah the R32 had the edge off the mark, but once i got into 3rd and stopped wheel spinning i went passed quite easily
