Vern's little make-over :)

So, after Vern got 'done up the bum' in early January, it gave us a kick up the arse - to take him off the road for a bit, get him fixed, no longer have him as the daily and make him what we wanted him to be...

Vern when we bought him August 2009



We used him as a daily from Aug 2009 til January 2010 when he was hit in the snow whilst parked up... the accident damage;












So we started taking him apart during the wait on the insurance go ahead and quote with the garage etc..

Seems Vern had grown some mangina holes due to the daily use in a shitty winter;







He also needed a fair few localized repairs around the wings, the bottoms of the doors, the ends of the guttering had started to rot a little, and the decklid was shagged.

Vern eventually went off for his accident repair, so we just went and bought a shit load of stuff for him (mostly shiny due to Kel )
We got the rossi's repaired and rechromed (and i am a moron as i forgot to take a picture of how shitty they were before!!) But trust me, they were pretty buggered.

and we got on with stripping the wings back and getting all the rusty bits out of them. We also had the indicator holes welded up by superman, as we decided to run with indicators in the side light section of the rossi's.







We eventually (4 months after the accident) got Vern back, and we had one week til CTTP to try and get all the localized repairs done, filled, primed, painted, wired up, put back together and sorted! So the challenge was on...

Whilst being repaired from the bump, we stripped the wings, bought a new decklid from Gunge's mass collection, stripped them back, nomates filler primed them, then we paid the garage to paint them the matching colour from the repairs.

They did a sweeeeet job, and we got them back to put them back onto the newly fixed Vern (with the help of our beautiful glamorous assistants )




We decided to go with stand off's and t-bars too




Then the lovely Big Al agreed with bribery of tea to wire up our newly rechromed, and new angel eye headlights for us (we also popped some eyelids on too)

Then it was a case of getting the doors back together, rechroming him up (Kel's favourite part) and getting the lovely new wheels on him




We also got rid of the Golf seats, and got some originals for a total bargain and with the help and delivery of nomates (again!)
Basically we are shit at taking photos, and there aren't that many at the moment!!!
But here he is, all lovely etc etc, and there is still the welding, and all of the interior re-trimming and sorting to do, plus we are going for a respray too.
We are pretty proud of ourselves, it's no body off or anything, but we feel like we put a bit of us into our bug, and worked our arses of solid for a week to get it done for CTTP!
We are biased, but we love the way he looks now
Just the sunvisor to go on externally now!

Oh and check out the sweet stickers I drew and got made up to cover the stupid little holes in the door from the pointless bullet mirrors that were on him before
















We also found out during our fiddles, Vern was a left hand drive once, was imported to the UK in 1985 from America, and has pretty much absolutely everything original on it, he is largely untouched, and totally solid really, which makes us

Coolio, Vern looked great on the club stand. Fair do's to you ladies.
