Would they then have to lacquer it to keep it nice, or will it be a constant job to keep it sparkling?

got more tin to go in and then tuning to be done.

Ady mentioned the timing is quite far around at 25 deg...

it's running an Engle 'fast road' cam, 009, blue coil, Empi hmpx twin dual 40's, turbo thomas header 1 5/8ths and 2.5" turbo muffler.

any idea what the cam might be, is it 110 or something else?

Emailed the engine shop info address the other night.
Got an email first thing the following morning answering all my questions etc.. from the man himself Jim Gray!

so the engle 'fast road' cam = 286* duration.

should be ready to collect tomoz!

Gotta go back in for the drilling of the manifolds and mot is up on the 17th May....

... can I do 500 miles at no more than 50 mph before then..?

I think it is revs you need to watch rather than top speed.
Don't labour the engine........ask Big Al as he is running his engine in on the B2'91' car.

would of been ready to collect today, but there was an oil leak :0

ady said it was clean oil and only happen when the van was off the jacks and on the level.

the guys there only just stopped short of stripping the whole engine down..and it was the dipstick bellows that had a 20mm split in it, sending oil into the fan housing and every where inc down onto the headers..

so x1 £4.95p bellows to come from heritage/coolair for Friday..

Also had to replace the starter motor as died. nice new bosch one in there now!

Engine comes with a service interval sheet, recommends under 50mph for the first 500 mile, then oil change and service, tappets etc..

Def keep revs low, run her in nice and gently!

Ady mentioned getting it tuned on a rolling road when settled in..

anywhere closer than Plympton?

guide on cost of tune/re-jetting twin 40's?

I am hoping to use a local guy who likes to keep his number a little under wraps to deter the Max Power / Saxo crowd.
I will let you know how I get on and pass on the number.

cheers guys, getting loads of advice on this!

so..

2500 rpm for 20mins to 'break in the cam'
then keep under 3500 rpm
500miles ish change oil, filter etc and re-torque heads and adjust tappets

the keep it gentle for the neext 1000 miles ish... (Big Al)
then do the both sides of the rings thing...(nomates)

scoops: cheers and let me know how it goes...

Still had oil on the headers on sat/sun, so took out the fan housing etc to degrease it and make sure there were no more traces of the oil anywhere..

also fitted new accelerator cable and new rear number plate bolt lights for the mot.

pics to follow..

ended up painting the fan housing as was really pitted.

Good news..

passed mot, just a 4mm hole needed closing up behind the front valance.
Ady, thank you so much for all the work/time on the van..

bad news...

engine still not right.

still leaking oil somewhere around the no 2 cylinder / head..

but only once the engine is up to temp.

it's had the dipstick bellows replaced and c-clipped (just in case!) and the filler gasket replaced and sealed again.

Front crank seal is dry, as is all the pushrods and rocker cover..

Ady reckons it might be the seal between the barrel and the head or a cracked head.

engine is coming out on Monday, checked (again) and then sent back to TES..

not happy.. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I spoke to the engine tuning dude for you........he said he doesn't really want to take on any more work at the moment as he has enough to keep him going until Xmas. Sorry Bud.
